Munduney runs a closed self-replacing Poll Merino flock certified MN2V status. We join approximately half of our Poll Merino ewes to Border Leicester rams. The first cross wether lambs are supplied annually for snake anti-venom production. We market the majority of our ewe lambs through the Naracoorte First Cross Lamb Sale in November, offering 500-1,000 head annually. The other half of our Poll Merino ewes are joined back to Poll Merino rams to provide replacement ewes for future breeding. The overall goal is to breed large framed, plain bodied sheep that cut bright white wool. Our marketing for our Poll Merino wether lambs varies from year to year but are often purchased by repeat buyers. Depending on what is happening with the seasonal conditions and our sheep programs on the other properties we sometimes offer surplus 1.5 year old Poll Merino Ewes.
Oaklea Park focuses on prime lamb production, mating high index White Suffolk rams over Merino ewes. We recently have increased our focus on selecting rams not only on visual attributes but Lambplan figures as well. We aim to produce consistent, high quality and predominately export weight lambs to various outlets.
Calcannia is still in the early stages of experimenting with an SRS Poll Merino self replacing ewe flock. We have recently purchased some quality flock dispersal ewes from a nearby property and are looking forward to seeing this program evolve over time.
